WiFi and 4G Calling now available on more devicesJune 7th, 2017
Hot on the heels of the Samsung Galaxy S7 & S7 edge, Wifi and 4G Calling is now available to existing customers with an iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE.
Wifi and 4G Calling is another way to stay connected with O2;
No signal? No problem, with Wifi Calling. Whether you’re at home, in a coffee shop or at the office, if you’re having a signal problem, you can use wifi to call as normal.
4G Calling lets you make calls over 4G, meaning clearer calls.
With Wifi and 4G Calling you’ll move seamlessly and uninterrupted between Wifi and 4G network coverage to continue your call, while being able to check your mail or browse the internet at the same time.
Wifi and 4G Calling was originally just available to iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, Galaxy S7 and S7 edge customers on Pay Monthly, sim-only and business tariffs, but O2’s existing iPhone 6s, 6s Plus and SE customers will be migrated over to the new IMS part of network and have the Wifi and 4G Calling service code added to their account. These customers should expect migration to be completed by 20 June.
iPhone set-up: Apple has begun the process of sending a new carrier bundle which contains the Wifi and 4G Calling settings for iPhone 6s, 6s Plus and SE. Customers will be prompted to accept this. This will automatically enable 4G Calling. Wifi Calling will need to be manually switched on by going to Settings > Phone > Wifi Calling. Make sure Wifi Calling is set to On.
To use the Wifi and 4G Calling service, you will need:
• An iPhone 6s, 6s Plus or SE with iOS 10.3.x installed from iTunes.
• The latest O2 device carrier settings. Visit Settings > General > About to update to the latest settings.
• Wifi and 4G Calling enabled in the handsets settings.
• To be connected to the Wifi and 4G Calling service code.
How it works
With an eligible device you’ll be able to start your call over wifi in the office, and as you step outside you’ll seamlessly move onto our 4G network (where available – use O2 coverage checker).
Once set you up and you’ve switched it on in your phone’s settings, you’re good to go. No need to sign up, register or download an app.
No extra charges
Your calls are included as part of your usual tariff allowance, and out-of-tariff calls are charged at your standard rate.
If you’re connected to a wifi network, or you’ve got a 4G signal, you’ll automatically use Wifi and 4G Calling, you don’t have to do anything once you’ve set it up.
More places to connect
You’ll be able to make and take calls wherever you have a wifi connection meaning you can stay in touch in more places than ever, with more public places being added all the time.
You’ll also be able to multi-task by browsing the internet or using apps on our fast 4G network while you’re making a call.
Using Wifi and 4G Calling
Wifi and 4G Calling won’t work with some of our other services including TU Go (or O2 Just Call Me, Mobex or Mobile Recording for business customers). You’ll need to remove them to use Wifi and 4G Calling. Don’t worry though, if you change your mind later you can always switch back – ask your Account Manager.
