Travel data charges

Travel data and calls abroad,  or calling abroad, from your mobiles can be expensive. But there’s plenty of options available so you can keep in control of the costs and incur hefty charges on your bills.

Always contact your Account Manager BEFORE you travel or make international calls. Your Account Manager will advise you on the best option for your use but here’s an outline of travel services available from the networks;

O2 International Travel outside Europe zone

If you are travelling further afield than Europe make sure you keep tabs on your mobile charges whilst you are there, particularly data charges as they can be costly.


You can add a 24 hour or 30 day Rest of World Pass to cover your calls, texts and data; everything needed to keep in touch on the move, wherever you go;

Rest of World 24 Hour Pass – just £7.50 for 500MB of data, 200 minutes, 200 texts. Enough for 6 hours of browsing or 1.5 hours of Skype.

Rest of World Pass 30 Day Pass – £99 for 5GB of data, 2000 minutes, 2000 texts. Enough for 65 hours of browsing or 10 hours of Skype.

You only get charged when you need to use it, and if you’re getting close to your limit, O2 will send a text to let you know, so there are no nasty surprises. Just like a passport, the Rest of World Pass is an essential for any business trip.

O2 European Travel 

From June 2017, customers travelling in Europe use their UK monthly mobile allowance; minutes, texts, and data allowance in the O2 Europe Zone (subject to a data fair use policy).  To check countries in the Europe Zone click here.

This means the majority of customers will get no more roaming charges on their bill! Minutes, texts, and data allowances will work in the Europe Zone, just like they do at home. This means that you’ll be able to make and receive calls and send and receive texts within O2’s Europe Zone, like you’d normally do in the UK.  Any data you use over your UK monthly allowance will be charged at the standard UK rate.

If you run out of data whilst in the Europe Zone, you can buy more – the options and cost are the same as in the UK. If you buy more data and don’t use it all before returning from our Europe Zone, you’ll still be able to use it when you’re back in the UK. If you buy more data in the UK and then go to our Europe Zone, you can also use it there. Normal roaming charges will apply if you use your phone in a country outside of the O2 Europe Zone.

O2 International Minutes and Text Bolt Ons

Keep talking without worrying about costs. To save money calling abroad it may be worthwhile adding a Bolt On to your tariff;

O2 offer two International Minutes Bolt Ons and a Texts Bolt On;

A £5 bundle will give you 120 international calling minutes and a  £15 bundle of 500 international calling minutes. Valid for Zones 1, 2, 4 and 5.  To check countries in Zones click here

A £5 text bundle will give you 100 texts worldwide

The Bolt On you choose will automatically renew every month. But if your business needs change, you can remove your Bolt On or add new ones whenever you want. Just bear in mind that you won’t get an alert once you’ve used up your allowance, and you’ll then be charged the standard rates.

If you don’t have an International Bolt On you’ll pay fixed rates for calling and texting contacts abroad.
