According to a new report by telematics specialist Ctrack, saving costs are the most frequent reason that users take on Vehicle Tracking technology.

The recent survey that included both users and non-users of tracking systems, over a third of respondents specified cost saving as their primary objective, and 70% said it was one of their aims.

However, operators also cited a range of other reasons for tracking vehicles.  Among these were increasing productivity, understanding driver behaviour, enhancing security, improve customer service,  obtaining proof of delivery or completion of work, enhance workflow management and improving duty of care.

Users of tracking systems claim an average saving 8.6% in fuel consumption, 15.3% in overtime claims and 13.3% in communications overheads.

Integrated satellite navigation was used in over half of tracking systems to improve routing, reduce mileage and enhance workflow.

Many users integrate tracking with other back-office functions such as fleet management, workflow, routing and scheduling.
