Another British Gas price riseAugust 8th, 2018
British Gas announce another price rise on its standard variable tariff, blaming rising wholesale costs. The decision will effect 3.5 million UK households receiving higher bill from October 2018 onwards.
Its the second time this year British Gas have risen their prices
Earlier this year, we saw other price rises in UK energy with EDF Energy raising its electricity prices by 2.7%, days after British Gas initially raised prices when a typical fuel bill rose by 5.5% for 4.1 million of its customers.
Last month, British Gas revealed it lost 340,000 UK customers in the first half of 2018, which experts attributed to its bill increase earlier in the year.
The rises back at the beginning of the year were branded as “unjustified” by the government. The new forthcoming energy price cap, even though it is still months from being signed off and introduced, is looking like a key factor in this round of price rises. The big six suppliers still have a short window to adjust prices upwards before the government starts to enforce pricing legislation upon them.
